Mazda has just wrapped up a four-hour race in the frozen wilderness of Åre, Sweden. The race featured 20 MX-5 Miata roadsters that competed in frigid weather as low as -24 degrees Fahrenheit.
The MX-5 Ice Race featured MX-5s that were modified specifically for driving on ice. Additionally, they were piloted by teams from 26 participating nations, among them motor journalists with racing experience, and TV fans and readers who won tickets to the event in special contests.
The winner of the race was a Russian team that completed the most laps around the three-mile circuit within the allotted four-hours. Jeff Guyton, Mazda Motor Europe’s President and CEO, was on hand to present the winners with their trophies.
