Despite inventory issues still plaguing some Japanese automakers, Mazda had a rather successful August, selling 22,632 vehicles, up 14.7 percent versus August of last year.
According to Mazda Phoenix, Mazda’s strongest seller last month was the Mazda2 subcompact, which saw its best-ever month with sales of 1,387 vehicles, marking a 195.7 percent increase versus last year. [click to continue…]

Mazda Dealerships IN tells us that two members of the award-winning 2011 Mazda lineup took home even more awards recently, when both the Mazda3 and Mazda CX-9 led their segments in this year’s edition of the Edmunds.com “Consumers’ Top Rated” rankings. A popular online destination for today’s vehicle shoppers, the website develops its annual list of top customer satisfiers by relying on reviews submitted directly by current owners themselves, making Mazda’s performance particularly notable.
“A longtime favorite among the Edmunds editors,” the Mazda3 earned its top spot in the “Sedan under $20,000” category for its “combination of sporty handling, great value and extensive list of standard features,” as well as its “stylish interior” and standard manual transmission. Significantly, the latter was called out for “its smooth shifting” and “the way it reinforces the Mazda3’s sporty feel.” [click to continue…]

Ahead of its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the folks at AutoWeek got their hands on a CX-5 prototype to get a feel for Mazda’s latest all-new model.
Although the CX-5 marks a new segment for Mazda, the biggest news is what’s under the hood. The CX-5 receives the automaker’s all-new 2.0-liter four-cylinder SKYACTIV-G engine that features direct injection and variable valve timing. The engine itself is lighter than similar Mazda engines, and it benefits from greater fuel efficient and lower emissions thank the outgoing four-cylinder engine it replaces. [click to continue…]

It’s no surprise that one of the country’s hottest hatchbacks has once again been recognized for boasting the kind of performance usually found only in vehicles that cost twice as much—or more. But the twist this time around is that the honor isn’t for what the Mazdaspeed3 can do at the test track, it’s for what the iconic Mazda can do with its music tracks: Popular Mechanics recently rated the Mazdaspeed3 as one of the “Top 10 Cars for Audiophiles,” along with vehicles like the Porsche Panamera, Lexus LS, Mercedes-Benz CLS550 and Audi A8.
Writing about the car’s available Bose Audio sound system, Popular Mechanics’ James Tate said that it “delivers crisp, balanced sound and a surprising thump from the subwoofer cleverly mounted inside the spare tire. It’s a great, traditional audio setup in a lively car that’s already famous for its bang-for-the-buck dominance.” [click to continue…]

The Mazda RX-8 has reportedly reached the end of the line. According to Inside Line, production has ended on the rotary-powered RX-8 sports car, but it will continue to be sold through Mazda dealers “as stock allows.”
Mazda made the decision to halt production of the RX-8 due to slumping sales and increasingly tough global emissions standards. Although it’s not an official end of its sales, production has been stopped until further notice. [click to continue…]

The company best known for its dynamic lineup of driver-friendly vehicles has now made owning one of those vehicles an even friendlier experience: Mazda recently introduced its first-ever pre-paid maintenance service—the Mazda Total Advantage Program—to provide owners with a more affordable way to ensure their vehicles get the factory-certified routine maintenance they deserve.
The new program was designed specifically to meet customer needs, bundling together typical maintenance services at one low price that delivers a notable cost advantage as compared to paying for the services separately. Plans are available for both Mazda’s Schedule I and Schedule II maintenance regimens, and can be purchased in 1- to 5-year increments. Customers can even roll the cost of the Mazda Total Advantage Program into their new-vehicle financing when a purchase is made through Mazda Capital Services. The entire award-winning Mazda roster is covered, too, including the MX-5 Miata and the Mazda3. [click to continue…]

Mazda is far from being one of the biggest automakers in world. But that hasn’t stopped the company from remaining at the forefront of new technology. Although Mazda’s budget can’t afford the same technologies as some of its larger counterparts, the automaker is using smarter applications of cheaper technologies to make their lineup more efficient.
Mazda’s new technological revolution is SKYACTIV. This new suite of powertrain technologies is simple, but it will help achieve Mazda’s aggressive fuel economy goals. [click to continue…]

Although Mazda is busy preparing to launch its all-new CX-5 crossover and its new SKYACTIV powertrain technology, reports suggest that the automaker hasn’t turned its back on hybrid technology.
In March of last year, Mazda signed a deal to license Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive technology, which Toyota is also licensing to Subaru. With access to this unique hybrid system, the automaker is expected to launch a hybrid version of its Mazda6 sedan as either a 2013 or 2014 model. [click to continue…]
