Amid the recent string of recalls from, well, just about every automaker, Mazda is also throwing its hat in the ring. Mazda is recalling 12,300 CX-9 crossover vehicles due to faulty heated seats. In some instances, the heater control circuit can overheat, and potentially could set fire to the seat according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In the coming days Mazda CX-9 owners will be notified via mail regarding the recall. Depending on the particular vehicle, the entire heater control circuit could be replaced. The issue was sparked in December when it was reported that a heated seat wouldn’t turn off, even when the car’s ignition was turned off.
Unlike the issues of unintended acceleration at Toyota, Mazda took no chances and launched an investigation into the matter immediately. Luckily, by moving swiftly to resolve the heated seat issue, Mazda will likely be able to avoid the public relations nightmare that is currently consuming Toyota.
