Seven years and ten months after production of the original Mazda3 back in 2003, Mazda has produced its three millionth Mazda3. Mazda’s popular compact has been the fastest-selling model in the automaker’s current lineup, with sales surpassing 1,152,332 units just in North America at dealers likce Mazda Connecticut.
The current Mazda3 is truly a global vehicle and is sold in 90 counties and regions around the world. Mazda Maryland said that Mazda produces the compact in three locations – Mazda’s Hofu Plant in Yamaguchi, Japan, the Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA) plant in Nanjing, China, and AutoAlliance Thailand (AAT).
“Mazda3 embodies the three elements of Mazda’s DNA: distinctive design, exceptional functionality, and responsive handling and driving performance,” said Hirotaka Kanazawa, Mazda Motor Corporation’s senior managing executive officer in charge of R&D. ”Continued global success has seen it grow into Mazda’s most popular model, comprising a third of all Mazda vehicle sales. Since the first-generation model appeared on the market, it has responded to the major changes in the automobile industry by inheriting and strengthening Mazda’s brand DNA while evolving exceptional environmental and safety performance. “
Currently, Mazda is preparing to launch the updated 2012 Mazda3 in the U.S. at dealerships like Dealer Hickory Mazda. Although it will receive a number of enhancements, the biggest upgrade is under the hood, as the 2012 model will receive the automaker’s latest SKYACITV powertrain technology.
Kanazwa added: “As the Mazda3 passes the three-million-unit mark, I would like to thank every customer for their support, and reaffirm our commitment to delivering outstanding environmental and safety performance balanced with driving pleasure that goes beyond your expectations.”
