After showing off the Mazda Minagi Concept at several prominent auto shows, Mazda has finally revealed the production version of its upcoming compact crossover. The 2012 Mazda CX-5 is slated to make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but already details are beginning to emerge.
The upcoming CX-5 boasts the automaker’s new “Kodo” (Soul of Motion) design language. That means it doesn’t feature the “smiley face” front fascias associated with Mazda’s Nagare-era vehicles.
Under the hood is Mazda’s all new SKYACTIV engine and transmission options. Buyers in Europe will be able to choose between a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and a 2.2-liter diesel powerplant. It’s still unclear what engine/transmission combinations will be available here in the U.S. The CX-5 may also boast a six-speed automatic and a six-speed manual.
The world premiere of the all-new Mazda CX-5 will be celebrated in September. Stay tuned for additional details. In the meantime, check out additional photos below. For more information, visit Miami Mazda or your local Mazda dealer.
