Mazda is preparing to show off the Minagi Concept at the New York Auto Show, which will give a glimpse into Mazda’s forthcoming compact crossover. Perhaps to no one’s surprise, Mazda has officially named this upcoming model the CX-5.

The Minagi initially debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March, but the New York show will mark its North American debut. Like the Minagi, the upcoming Mazda CX-5 will feature the automaker’s new design theme, ‘Kodo – Soul of Motion’ as debuted on the Mazda Shinari concept car.

In addition to a bold new design theme, the upcoming CX-5 will also feature the full range of breakthrough SKYACTIV technologies, including engines, transmissions, body and chassis, when it arrives in 2012.

The production version of the Mazda CX-5 will make its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany in September 2011.
