High Expectations Meet Low Price: the 2010 MAZDA6

by jburney on May 12, 2010

Mazda gives a lot, for a little. Named as Smart Money’s 2009 Best Value Sedan, the MAZDA6 will appeal to both your personality and your financial situation. Mazda knows that every person is different, and with seven different trims, it’s hard to not find the right MAZDA6 for your individual needs and tastes. Plus, with its affordable price, the Mazda6 is truly a force to be reckoned with.

Starting with the i SV at $19,350, the lineup proceeds next to the i Sport, i Touring, i Touring Plus, i Grand Touring, s Touring Plus, and the s Grand Touring. What’s really impressive is all that you can get with the middle of the pack, MAZDA6 i Touring Plus. This trim comes standard with a moonroof, power driver’s seat, power windows and locks, keyless entry and an automatic transmission all around $24,500.

On the inside, you will be impressed. The interior of the MAZDA6 i Touring Plus comes very well equipped at a reasonable price, has a premium feel that might come as a little unexpected, has plenty of room and overall, is very comfortable. For only $430, add Satellite radio to complete the perfect interior. Other options include a Bose® audio system and Bluetooth® hands-free capability. The 6 has the options to make the daily drive less of a chore, Mazda Manchester says.

Under the hood of all the MADZA6 trims you can choose from a 2.5 liter I4 engine with front wheel drive or a 272 horsepower 3.7L, V6 engine. Weighing in a little over 3,300 pounds, the 2.5-L engine puts out 170 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque. In regards to fuel economy, the MAZDA6 lineup can achieve up to 30 miles per gallon highway.

When it comes to safety, all Mazda vehicles comes with standard front and side-impact air bags, air curtains, standard Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), and class-exclusive Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) System.

One complaint, though. While the exterior is noted for some nice lines, it is hard to argue that the bland look does not do the vehicle justice. Competing with the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, the MAZDA6 i Touring Plus can get away with the look, but still might be missing that spark to really get you going. Another competitor is the Nissan Altima, which if you ask Seattle Nissan has the advantage for its selection of powertrains (including a hybrid in some markets), technology, and of course its stellar looks.
