At the 2010 New York auto show, Mazda not only continued to highlight its new 2011 Mazda2 subcompact, but also announced its base price of $13,980. In addition to finally releasing pricing details, the launch date of the Mazda2 has been moved up to July 2010.

According to the automaker, the all-new Mazda2 is “Zoom-Zoom in its most concentrated form.” For a compact, the Mazda2 is far more stylish than many of its competitors and promises to offer the fun-to-drive characteristics than subcompacts notoriously lack.

When it arrives in showrooms this summer, buyers will be able to choose between two trim levels – the entry level Sport and the top-of-the-line Touring model. Both are priced competitively against similar offerings from brands such as Nissan, Honda, and Toyota, which makes Santa Cruz Mazda eager to add the Mazda2 to its showroom.

Among the standard features on the 2011 Mazda2 are Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with Traction Control System (TCS), Electric Power Assist (EPAS) steering system, 185/55/R15 all-weather tires mounted on 15-inch steel wheels with full wheel covers, body-colored door handles and power mirrors, air conditioning, power windows and door locks, AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo with four speakers, audio auxiliary jack, tilt steering wheel, remote keyless entry system, rear window wiper/washer and 60/40 split fold-down rear seats. Powering the Mazda2 is a 100 horsepower 1.5-liter four cylinder engine mated to either a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission.
