Mazda has been busy preparing a new generation of advanced engines that will be used to boost fleet-wide fuel economy. These engines, the Sky-G (gas) and Sky-D (diesel), are still being tested, but results from these initial applications are already looking promising.
The first use of the new engine will debut on next year’s updated Mazda6 sedan, but engines are currently being tested on the compact Mazda3. With the 2.0-liter Sky-G engine, the Mazda3 reportedly is earning as much as 40 miles per gallon on the highway, which will easily help the Mazda3 take on the likes of the Ford Fiesta and Honda Fit on the MPG front. When the original Mazda MX-5 Miata debuted, the roadster was fun to drive and light on its feet. Over the years, Mazda added more amenities and new hardware that added weight with each iteration. However, for 2012 the next MX-5 will reportedly scale back to be more inline with the original roadster.
According to the latest reports from Autocar, Mazda has set a target weight of 2,200 pounds for the next MX-5. Weight distribution will also retain the current model’s 50/50 balance. The reduction in weight will also be reflected in the new model’s mileage, combined with Mazda’s new SKY-G gasoline engines. These two factors combined will yield 15 percent better fuel economy than the current model. [click to continue…]

Brands such has Honda and BMW have found tremendous success by offering certified pre-owned vehicle programs. Now for the first time, Mazda is looking to do the same.
Certified pre-owned cars differ from other used cars because to be “certified” means that they have passed a rigorous inspection. Therefore, they offer buyers greater peace of mind. This also means that certified pre-owned cars tend to carry a larger price tag than comparable, non-certified models. [click to continue…]

Mazda and its “Zoom Zoom” philosophy has always put performance and fun above everything else. The design of Mazda vehicles seamlessly convey that character. Perhaps this is best personified in the flowing Nagare design theme. But soon Mazda will feature a new design language, but the sportiness isn’t going anywhere.
“Nagare is done,” said Peter Birtwhistle, Mazda of Europe’s British design boss. “After the 5, it’s highly unlikely that there will be another Nagare car. Mazda has moved on.” [click to continue…]

Some car salesmen simply have no shame, and this guy is one of them. While it’s completely over the top, he has actually come up with a pretty catchy song.
The Mazda3 is certainly worthy of a rap song, unlike recent rap songs for minivans. Sure it’s an entry-level compact car, but it’s designed for those that want something that’s actually still fun to drive. Powering the Mazda3 is an inline four-cylinder engine producing 148 horsepower and 135 foot pounds of torque. Available amenities include xenon headlights, Bluetooth, iPod connectivity, and much more. [click to continue…]

Mazda just announced that it will make WPP Group their full-service advertising agency, and will severe ties with Doner. Doner has been the automaker’s agency for more than a decade, and helped cultivate Mazda’s “Zoom Zoom” image.
The announcement dealt a huge blow to Doner, one of the largest independent advertising agencies in the world. Mazda was by far the agency’s largest account. No specific reasons were cited for dropping Doner, but Mazda did specify that it wanted “to go in a new direction.” [click to continue…]

There’s been plenty of buzz surrounding rotary engines lately. Even engineers at General Motors are reportedly considering a rotary for the next-generation Chevy Volt. But Mazda has been the only brand capable of mastering this company engine, which makes it no surprise that the latest rumors suggest that the next-generation Mazda MX-5 could get a rotary engine.
The 2012 Mazda MX-5 is said to become a bit larger, be capable of achieving 50 mpg, and still be a blast to drive. Early reports have suggested that all this would be achieved with the help of Mazda’s new SKY-G engines, but according to Japanese magazine Best Car, an ultra compact rotary unit may help to deliver the power and save weight.
